As part of GAINs efforts important gaps have been identified in the evidence base and its translation that would improve the quality of design and implementation of programs, particularly those designed to improve the accessibility of and demand for nutritious foods for low income consumers.  The Technical Specialist, Research will support GAINs efforts to improve the quality and relevance of research in nutrition supported by GAIN and partners and to facilitate the translation of that evidence.


Under supervision of the unit Director and working with staff from programmatic areas across GAIN the Technical Specialist will support the unit activities through a range of tasks related to implementation research, program process and impact evaluation and the translation of that evidence for decision making among diverse audiences.  The Technical Specialist will form part of the Monitoring, Learning and Research (MLR) team and will be expected to participate in diverse activities to support sharing learnings related recent evidence generally and GAIN-supported research specifically and to take an active role in disseminating such information internally and externally.


The ideal candidate must possess strong research design and implementation skills in one of quantitative or qualitative research methods, with working knowledge of the both. They must have hands-on experience in programmatically relevant research – from design through analysis and dissemination, in addition to experience doing research in low or middle income country, in collaboration with the local research counterparts.
