The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation that mobilizes public-private partnerships and provides financial and technical support to deliver nutritious foods to those people most at risk of malnutrition.  

Purpose:

The overall purpose of this position is to lead GAINs efforts to develop methods and metrics for improved impact evaluation in programming areas relevant for GAINs strategy, and particularly for actions in the public-private space for nutrition and to work with partners on the implementation and broad dissemination of such evaluations.

Under supervision of the Director Knowledge Leadership (KL) and working closely with the KL, Program and Technical Services and country teams will lead GAINs efforts to increase the quality and quantity of evidence generated for areas relevant to GAINs strategy, with particularly emphasis on impact evaluation of actions in the public-private space.  Specific areas of responsibility will include:

  • Conduct reviews, syntheses and/or other methods that will summarize existing and new evidence and support the identification of evidence gaps and priorities for evaluation in areas relevant to GAINs strategy
  • Work with project teams within GAIN to develop impact pathways for interventions and identify evidence relevant to support such pathways
  • Work with partners (internal and external) to develop methods and metrics for improved impact evaluation of actions relevant to GAINs strategy, and in the public-private space specifically
  • Be actively engaged in the sector generally, publishing in high impact peer reviewed journals, presenting at interventional events, and with partners across multiple disciplines and countries in the promotion of increased utilization of evidence for action in the public-private space for nutrition
  • Participate actively in project teams within GAIN to develop impact evaluations and to improve the utilization of such evidence for program design and improvement
  • Support others within the knowledge mobilization team to translate the evidence generated from evaluations for policy and programs beyond GAIN
  • Participate actively in fundraising for evaluation specifically and for programs as part of GAIN teams

Requirements:

  • PhD training in economics or related field
  • Substantial training in one of: impact evaluation, business, nutrition, public health preferred
  • Experience in impact evaluation in nutrition, agriculture or related field 
  • Hands on experience doing evaluation in low or middle income country
  • Proposal writing and fundraising experience highly desirable
