The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is driven by the vision of a world without malnutrition, which affects 1 in 3 people globally. GAIN is a Swiss-based foundation that mobilizes public-private partnerships and provides financial and technical support to deliver nutritious foods to those people at risk of malnutrition. 

Overall Purpose:

GAIN is looking for a dynamic advocacy specialist to develop and begin implementation of a sector-wide an advocacy strategy to push for the scale-up of fortification programmes on a global level with specific strategies developed for 2 countries.  The specialist will bring in new approaches, build a new coalition, and reach beyond ‘the usual suspects’ to take fortification to a new level in policy and practice. 

Develop global advocacy strategy which helps drives forward new fortification policies and funding. Specific activities should include:

  • Communications and collaboration strategy developed and incorporated into Global Fortification-Technical Advisory Group (GF-TAG) workplan
  • Global advocacy strategy developed based on a problem analysis, review of good practice and consultations with global and national nutrition and fortification stakeholders
  • Plan of action developed for targeted advocacy efforts to scale up fortification in two countries
  • Establish global strategic fortification coalition - GF-TAG, Iodine Global Network, Food Fortification Initiative, Micronutrient Forum and other relevant networks and partners mobilized into more structured action

Experience:

  • Leadership of a major advocacy initiative having successfully brought about new funding and policy change in at least one low or middle income country
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing advocacy or communications strategies, at an international or national level
  • Demonstrated success in building relationships or coalitions across diverse organisations, cultures and teams
  • Experience working with international partners, such as governments, businesses, international organizations, academia, consumer, and NGOs both at the global and country level
