6 month contract, renewable to 12 months

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking a Social Media Coordinator on a six-month contract renewable to 12 months to join our team in Washington, DC.

GAIN is an alliance driven by the vision of a world without malnutrition. Created in 2002 at a Special Session of the UN General Assembly on Children, GAIN supports public-private partnerships to increase access to the missing nutrients in diets necessary for people, communities and economies to be stronger and healthier.

In less than a decade, GAIN has been able to scale its operations by investing in and working alongside more than 600 companies in more than 30 countries, reaching over 610 million people with nutritionally enhanced food products. 253 million of the beneficiaries are women and children. GAIN’s goal is to reach more than one billion people with fortified foods that have sustainable nutritional impact.

As part of the Policy and Advocacy team, Communications drives the delivery of corporate messages to a diverse set of audiences - from global, regional, national policy makers, to the private sector, donors, media and the general public. Reporting to the senior team leaders in Communications and Campaigns, the Coordinator will enhance its engagement through social media as the voice of the organization. The position will be based in the Washington, DC office in Dupont Circle.

You will have responsibility for schedule management, hands on interaction with off-site social properties – other individual blogs, other company Facebook fan pages, and forums by writing content and interfacing with senior leaders, and will build on your skills to implement a day-to-day stream of conversations for GAIN which strongly positions our organization’s voice.

This position requires that the Coordinator stays current and connected with the local social media community and on occasion attending events with senior leadership or staff.

In addition, you will monitor social media channels to identify potential opportunities and present them to the Communications office, providing written briefings, backgrounds and intelligence to senior leaders.

Your exceptional written and oral communication skills ensure you are highly effective at operating in a multicultural environment, with the ability to work well with GAIN's staff globally to develop content for social media platforms and blogs.

A proven track record in online engagement for an international organization is essential, as is excellent spoken and written command of English. French would be highly desirable as a second language.
