About the Role

GAIN is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Associate Food Fortification to join our team working on public health and nutrition-related fortification projects in Nigeria. The post holder will be responsible for supporting the implementation and monitoring of Large-Scale Food Fortification (LSFF) projects under the supervision of the Senior Project Manager.

The Senior Associate Food Fortification will be responsible for providing technical support and guidance to project stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, the Federal Ministry of Health, food producers in the private sector, and laboratories.

They will help develop and implement strategies to improve food fortification practices, ensure compliance with national standards, and promote effective collaboration among project stakeholders. They will work closely with government agencies, food producers, and other stakeholders to ensure effective coordination and alignment with national nutrition strategies and policies.

Key Responsibilities include
  • Support the design, planning, implementation, and monitoring of the LSFF project activities in Nigeria, ensuring alignment with GAIN's strategic objectives and national nutrition policies.
  • Support project teams on the food technology aspects of food assistance programs, ensuring compliance with food and safety regulations.
  • Represent GAIN to external stakeholders, technical meetings and conferences as necessary especially government stakeholders.
  • In consultation with the Senior Project Manager, develop project implementation plans, monitoring plans and budgets
  • Collate and analyse data and contribute to the preparation of technical and needs assessment reports relating to food quality and safety, to inform risk management and mitigation.
  • Contribute towards partnership management, technical, reporting, and monitoring support ensuring activities are delivered on time aligning with donor and organizational compliance in line with the policies and best practice standards of GAIN.
  • Support project teams on the food technology aspects of food assistance programs, ensuring compliance with food and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with government agencies, food producers, and other stakeholders to strengthen the regulatory environment and enforcement of food fortification standards and guidelines.

About you

The ideal candidate should have experience in nutrition programming where they collaborate with government agencies, food producers, and other stakeholders to strengthen the regulatory environment and enforcement of food fortification standards and guidelines. You should be able to conduct technical needs assessment within the food industry including laboratories from a safety and quality standards perspective and work towards bridging those gaps.

The post holder should have strong project management skills with ability to plan a wide range of tasks while ensuring stakeholder engagement with key players in the food industry and reporting. In addition to this, do stakeholder mapping and management of key interest groups (external partners, governments, regulatory agencies, and other government agencies) for the effective implementation of the project.

You should have the ability to coordinate and influence the formulation, implementation, monitoring of projects. Demonstrate in-depth understanding of working with government stakeholders and other partners such as private sector. The candidate should have an education background in Food Technology, Health Sciences, Food Control, Nutrition or other related field, or related work experience.

The starting gross salary on offer for this role is from NGN 9’558’516 – NGN 10’907’460 per annum, depending on experience.
