About the Role

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking a Junior Associate - Environment to support the Environment team with their activities across GAIN’s programmes. This is an administrative position that provides an exciting opportunity to develop a career in the food and environment space.

This role will be on a 2 years’ fixed term contract basis, subject to availability of funding. This position will be based in the GAIN London office.

Reporting to the Environmental Lead, you will support the Environment team with their activities across GAIN’s programmes, advocacy and operational work and on the Innovative Food Systems Solutions (IFSS) portal.

Key Responsibilities include
  • Supporting the timely project implementation of the environment workstream under the Nourishing Food Pathways (NFP) programme at both global and country levels
  • Supporting the accurate and timely financial transactions of the programme including processing purchase orders, contracts and invoices with the support of the Environment Lead and global finance team
  • Scheduling and planning workshops and supporting project teams to use the screening tool to mitigate environmental risks and maximising opportunities for nutrition-environment co-benefits
  • Providing technical and administrative support to international events, liaising with other GAIN departments and programmes, GAIN partners and other organisations
  • Conducting desk research and developing briefs and other materials for the programme
  • Contributing to the development of communications materials (blogs, articles, videos, social media posts) to drive awareness and engagement with the linkages between nutrition and climate, and the solutions to joint challenges

About You

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a broad understanding of programme issues and advocacy work for development programmes, NGOs, donor funded and related projects and rounded knowledge on food systems and the environmental challenges and opportunities in low-to-middle income settings. Candidates’ with experience working with financial administration processes is desirable.

You should have strong administrative and communication skills and you must possess the ability to work on a wide portfolio of projects with multiple teams across various geographical contexts. The postholder should also have an excellent command of written and spoken English.

A Bachelor’s degree level in environmental science, international development, public policy, public health or related field or equivalent experience is preferred, and candidates’ with experience in visiting, living or working within developing countries would be an advantage. Also, you should be highly flexible and willing and able to travel between countries.

Candidates’ must be passionate about the challenges of addressing nutrition, food systems and environmental issues.

The starting salary on offer for this role is from GBP 29,719 – GBP 31,855 per annum (gross salary), depending on experience.
