The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking a reliable and driven Project Manager to join and lead the Better Dairy for All project. The Project Manager is responsible for the effective implementation of the project and will lead the project team in generating demand for dairy products to be consumed by the target groups. This role is offered on a fixed-term basis until March 2025, subject to funding and requires frequent travel within Ethiopia.
The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with both governments and businesses, we aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people. In particular, we aim to make healthier food choices more desirable, more available, and more affordable. GAIN’s mission is to advance nutrition outcomes by improving consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially the most vulnerable to malnutrition.
About the Role
The Better Dairy for All project is designed to develop solutions that increase access (including through supports on innovative dairy processing) and demand to affordable dairy products for children <7years, pregnant and lactating women, school children, and low wage industrial or large-scale farm workers. This is achieved through the improvement of access to affordable and safe dairy products by building on existing dairy value chain in Amhara and other regions of Ethiopia.
The Project Manager is responsible for the effective implementation of the project and will lead the project team in generating demand for dairy products to be consumed by the target groups, developing affordable, safe, and nutritious prototypes of dairy or dairy-based products, developing a viable business model as well as a marketing and demand creation strategy. The Project Manager will also lead efforts to strengthen the enabling environment for value addition towards dairy accessing and consumption in Ethiopia.
This role is offered on a fixed-term basis until March 2025, subject to funding and requires frequent travel within Ethiopia.
Specific Responsibilities include;
- Accountability for the overall effective management of the project activities with emphasis on access and demand
- Planning, implementing, monitoring, and tracking the project outputs
- Identifying, reporting and developing strategies to address project risks
- Working with the Senior Program Manager, Knowledge and Leadership Team and other internal stakeholders to successfully implement all components of the project
- Collaborating with country and global teams to facilitate stakeholder alignment and develop key partnerships between public / Government and private sectors
- Engaging with key Government departments, including the standard and regulatory body, to revise, develop, and harmonize policies, directives, standards, regulations, and guidelines
- Collaborating with other, relevant GAIN departments for contracts, purchase orders and project financial accounts
- Supporting the project team, including GAIN staff and external service providers and suppliers
- Providing the required technical support to selected dairy processors and distributers to make safe and quality dairy products accessible to target community
Applicants should be experienced and confident project managers with a good understanding of food systems and the dairy value chains. They should have proven experience working within international development and a good understanding of the role of the organisation in contributing to Sustainable Development Goals. Applicants should be able to prioritize, multi-task and work well under pressure with frequent deadlines. Experience working on nutritious food demand creation or aligning roles would be advantageous.
In addition to the above, applicants should be educated to Master’s level in Dairy / Nutrition / Food Science or Technology, or another relevant field. Additional qualifications in project management or development-related study would be advantageous. Applicants should have a good command of the Amharic language and be both willing and able to travel within Ethiopia frequently.
About our Offer
The starting salary on offer for this role is from ETB 631,380 - 722,080 per annum, dependent on experience
The starting date for this role, to be agreed with the successful applicant, will not commence until after the 1st January 2022.
